Underflow turbidity currents - settling type : When the inflowing muddy water does not dive under the clear water but pushes it downstream and forms a considerable body of muddy water and the sediment slowly settles to the bottom later flowing down into the reservoir in the form of underflow turbidity currents. The existence of these currents is indirectly inferred from the deep deposits of fine material in the stream bed near the upper ends of some large reservoirs (illustrated).
