3080. Manning`s equation : 1- A formula giving relationship between velocity of flow V (m/sec in SI or ft/sec in FPS), hydraulic radius R (m or ft), and friction slope S (m/m or ft/ft) as follows:

V = k/N . R2/3.S1/2
Here, k is a constant (1.00 m1/3/m1/3 in SI units, 1.486 ft1/3/ft1/3 in FPS) and N is Manning’s coefficient of roughness (unitless).

2-An empirical equation for the value of the coefficient C in the Chezy`s equation. In terms of a coefficient of roughness and the hydraulic radius, the Manning’s equation is a simple exponential substitute for that of Kutter and leaves the rugosity coefficient N practically unchanged.
           R1/6
C = k. -----
           N
where N is Manning’s roughness coefficient (1.00 sec/m1/3 in SI units), k = constant (1.00 m1/3/m1/3 in SI units, 1.486 ft1/3/ft1/3 in FPS), R = hydraulic radius (m), and C = Chezy’s roughness coefficient (m1/2/sec).
