The World Water Forum is the main water-related event in the world, aimed at putting water firmly on the international agenda. A stepping stone towards global collaboration on water problems, the Forum offers the water community and policy-and-decision-makers from all over the world the unique opportunity to come together to create links, debate and attempts to find solutions to achieve water security.
The 6th World Water Forum was held in Marseille, France, 2012.
6th WORLD WATER FORUM – Marseille 2012
Preparing for the 6th World Water Forum -
Theme "Contribute to food security by optimal use of water"
This Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) are coordinating the preparation of the theme “Contribute to food security by optimal use of water” for the 6th World Water Forum, to be held in Marseille in March 2012.
www.worldwaterforum6.com
That forum has been conceived as the Forum of “solutions”. Twelve Thematic Priorities are addressed. Under each a series of targets translate the identified issues into concrete and achievable objectives at all levels. For each target, workable solutions will be proposed at the World water forum, and some of them demonstrated in the village of solutions of the forum.
The preparation process aims to be as inclusive as possible and the forum committee organised two formal consultations (one in Marseille in June 2010, and one in Paris in January 2011), in order to screen likely recommendations, eventual targets and workable solutions. Each of the two consultations had about 400 participants, representing different stakeholders from various countries and regions of the world.
FAO and ICID are undertaking a broader extensive consultation to collect the "voice" of stakeholders that could not participate in the first in-person consultations. This is the aim of the survey below where you can comment on targets and join the preparatory process for the theme on “Contribute to food security by optimal use of water”. |

World Water Forum 6
Survey on
"recommendations", "targets" and workable "solutions" for the Thematic Priority "Contribute to food security by optimal use of water"
Introduction
The 6th World Water Forum, to be held in Marseille in March 2012 (www.worldwaterforum6.com for further information), has been conceived as the Forum of "solutions". Twelve Thematic Priorities will be addressed, and for each of them there has been already two formal consultations (one in Marseille in June 2010, and one in Paris in January 2011), in order to screen likely recommendations, eventual targets and workable solutions. Each of the two consultations had about 400 participants, representing different stakeholders from various countries and regions of the world.
The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), coordinating the Thematic Priority "Contribute to food security by optimal use of water", are undertaking a board and extensive consultation through this survey in order to collect the ‘voice’ of stakeholders that could not participate in the first two consultations of the preparatory processes to the Forum.
Here after you’ll find 10 targets that have been proposed for the Thematic Priority "Contribute to food security by optimal use of water". For each target you are asked some questions and possible comments. Furthermore, you will have a chance to suggest your own recommendation, target and related solutions. You are not required to address all the Targets, rather only those you are more familiar/concerned with.
The time required to respond to this questionnaire may be 10-20 min (depending on your level of involvement and target addressed) and the deadline for its submission is 21st of March, 2011.
We value your inputs and we are looking forward to hearing from you.
