HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER?

ICID Membership

The membership of the Commission consists of professionals: planners and policy makers; water managers; irrigation and agriculture engineers; research scientists and educationists; engaged in the related areas within the countries through their National Committees (NC) traditionally organized under the departments responsible for irrigation or agricultural water management. Individuals, companies and institutions can also be the part of the network as Direct Members (DM).

Presently, ICID country membership network is spread over 110 countries across Africa, Americas, Asia and Oceania, and Europe, covering over 95% of the irrigated area of the world. Any geographical area independently administered by a sovereign government and having interest in the activities of the Commission is eligible to become a National Committee (NC). The Commission advocates for the National Committees to be broad-based, multi-disciplinary and should provide a platform for collaboration among various institutions having related aims within their countries.

Professionals, individuals and officers of government or of an institution or institutions - government and non-government; and companies, effectively representing interests within the scope of the objects of the Commission can participate in ICID activities through Direct Membership (DM), to further the objects of the Commission in their countries or sovereign areas. (A)		FIXED BASIC SUBSCRIPTION = US $ 1515.00
(B)		INTEREST OF THE COUNTRY :
	(i)	Subscription = $ 1360 X (A)^0.50
		Where (A) is the area irrigated + drained + flood protected, in million ha, up to 9.35 million ha
		OR
	(ii)	Subscription = US $ 1900 X (A)^0.35 where A is the area in million ha above 9.35 million ha
(C)		CAPACITY TO PAY
	(a)	Countries paying less than half of world average of UN Contribution, i.e. less than 0.30 per cent : Normal contribution.
	(b)	Countries Paying 0.30 per cent or more but less than 0.6 per cent : US $ 725
	(c)	Countries paying 0.6 per cent (world average) or more but less than 1.5 per cent (ICID countries average) of UN Contribution : US $ 1450
	(d)	Countries paying 1.5 per cent or more, but less than 2 times the ICID average (3.0 per cent) : US $ 2175
	(e)	Countries paying more than 3.00 per cent (double the ICID countries average) : US $ 2900
(D)		CONCESSION
		Fifty per cent concession to be given in "Interest of the Country" element to countries paying UN Contribution up to and including 0.03 per cent.

		A is the Weighted Benefitted Area calculated as follows: Weighted Benefit area= IA + (0.5)* DA……. if IA>DA Weighted Benefit area= DA + (0.5)* IA……. if DA>IA and Irrigated Area (IA); Drainage Area (DA)

		InF is the cumulative Inflation Factor for three years as obtained from the IMF data?

STATEMENT SETTING OUT CRITERIA FOR REPORTING FIGURES ON AREA IRRIGATED AND AREA PROTECTED BY DRAINAGE WORKS IN EACH MEMBER COUNTRY

Figures of areas benefited will be required under two headings :(a) Irrigation(b) Drainage (including flood control) For the purpose of calculating each country’s interest, the area benefited will be taken as the sum of (a) plus (b).

IRRIGATION :

The figure required is the area capable of being irrigated by existing installation or equipment together with the additional area which will be capable of being irrigated during the next five years.The word "capable" should be interpreted as including the whole irrigable area covered by irrigation systems and not simply the area irrigated in each year.

It applies to the net area and should exclude such things as channels, roads, buildings and the like.

DRAINAGE :

The figure required is the area which for agricultural purposes depends upon any form of artificial (man-made) drainage works together with any areas depending upon the maintenance or improvement of natural channels.

Note : (1) Land depending upon more than one form of drainage works should be included once only.

(2) Land which is irrigated and also drained should be included under irrigation and not under drainage (that is, it counts once only).
