The 4th World Irrigation Forum (WIF4) and the 73rd International Executive Council Meeting will be hosted by the Chinese National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (CNCID) in September 2022 at Beijing, China.

During the Opening Ceremony of WIF3, presentation of trophy by H.E. M. Basuki Hadimulyono, Minister for Public Works and Housing (PWH), Indonesia, prize money by H.E. Tian Xuebin, Vice Minister, Ministry of Water Resources of PR of China, and Er. Felix B. Reinders, President, ICID presented the World Irrigation and Drainage Prize, 2019 to Prof. Dr. Chandra Madramootoo for his sustained, long standing and highly committed work in irrigation and drainage sector worldwide through education, research, planning and international project implementation. The WID prize comprised of a cash award of US$ 10,000, citation and a trophy.

Dean of Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, McGill University of Canada, and the former President of International Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID). Among other things, Prof Madramootoo held many prestigious positions such as Chair, Governing Board, ICRISAT; Vice Chair, Board of Governors, IDRC; Member, International High-Level Advisory Panel on Adaptation for Africa’s Agriculture; and, IWHR Honorary Professor.

 

A renowned professional of international repute in water management, Prof Madramootoo took keen interest in all aspects of water management including irrigation, drainage, agricultural research, international agriculture development, hydrology and water quality of surface and subsurface drained fields, development of innovative technologies to predict crop water requirements, and impacts of water management practices on greenhouse gas emissions.


Other areas of interest for his research work in recent years include: Agricultural Water Quality; Effects of agricultural water management systems on greenhouse gas emissions in Eastern Canada; A water quality assessment framework for a safe food system; Managing agricultural systems to protect Canada's freshwater; Application of variable rate irrigation technology for water efficiency and conservation; and, Soil-plant-water dynamics and water productivity benefits of subsurface drip irrigation.
