BEST PAPER AWARD

ICID instituted the 'Best Paper Award' to recognise the outstanding paper contributed to ‘Irrigation and Drainage’, the Journal of ICID.  The award consists of a citation plaque and either US$ 500 cash or US$ 800 worth of Wiley books from M/s. Wiley Blackwell (UK). The best papers awards have been started from 2006.

2017 The Wiley-Blackwell 2017 Best Paper Award was awarded to Sabine J. Seidel, Stefan Werisch, Klemens Barfus, Michael Wagner, Niels Schütze, and Hermann Laber for their paper titled "Field Evaluation of Irrigation Scheduling Strategies Using a Mechanistic Crop Growth Model", published in the ICID Journal (Volume 65, Issue 2). The award waspresented during 68th IEC meeting on 10 October 2017, Mexico City, Mexico.
2016 The Wiley-Blackwell 2016 Best Paper Award was awarded to Ludivine Pradeleix, Philippe Roux, Sami Bouarfa, Bochre Jaouani, Zohra Lili-Chabaane and Veronique Bellon-Maurel for their paper titled “Environmental impacts of contrasted groundwater pumping systems assessed by life cycle assessment methodology: Contribution to the water-energy nexus”, published in the ICID Journal (Volume 64, Issue 1, February 2015 issue). The award was given during 67th IEC meeting on 8 November 2016, Chiang Mai, Thailand, and was received by Ms. Ludivine Pradeleix.
2015 The Wiley-Blackwell 2015 Best Paper Award was awarded to Dr. Willem F. Vlotman and Mr. Clarke Ballard for their paper titled Water, Food and Energy Supply Chains for a Green Economy, published in the Special Issue: First World Irrigation Forum, April 2014, Volume 63, Issue 2, of Irrigation and Drainage – the Journal of ICID. The award was given during 66th IEC meeting on 11-16 October 2015, Montpellier, France and was received by Mr. Stephen Mills, Chairman, IACID.
2014 Best Paper 2013The Wiley-Blackwell 2014 Best Paper Award was awarded to Marylou M. Smith and Stephen W. Smith (USA) for their paper titled Agricultural/Urban/ Environmental Water Sharing in the Western United States. Can Engineers Engage Social Science for Successful Solutions?, published in issue 62.3 of Irrigation and Drainage – the Journal of ICID. The award was given during 65th IEC meeting on 20 September 2014 at Gwangju, Republic of Korea and was received by Vice President Hon. Larry D. Stephens,U.S. National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (USCID) on behalf of the authors.
2013 Best Paper 2013The Wiley-Blackwell 2013 Best Paper Award was awarded to P.J.G.J. Hellegers, H.C. Jansen and W.G.M. Bastiaanssen (The Netherlands) for their paper titled “An Interactive Water Indicator Assessment Tool to Support Land Use Planning”, published in issue 61.2 of Irrigation and Drainage – the Journal of ICID. The award was given during 64th IEC meeting on 5 October 2013 at Mardin, Turkey and was received by Mrs. Prof. Charlotte de Fraiture, Chairperson, Netherlands National ICID Committee (NETHCID) on behalf of the authors.
2012 Best Paper Award - 2012Zahra Paydar, Freeman Cook, Emmanuel Xevi, and Keith Bristow (Australia) received 'Best Paper Award 2012' for their outstanding paper titled "An Overview of Irrigation Mosaics" published in Volume 60, No.4.
2011 Best Paper 2011VPH Stephens receiving ‘Best Paper Award 2011’ from President Chandra Madramootoo in recognition of the outstanding paper titled "Airborne Remote Sensing for Detection of Irrigation Canal Leakage" by Yanbo Huang, Guy Fipps, Stephan J. Maas, and Reginald S. Fletcher (USA) published in Volume 59, No. 5.
2010 Best Paper 2010VPH Vidal receiving ‘Best Paper Award 2010’ from President Chandra Madramootoo in recognition of their outstanding paper titled "Farmers' perceptions and engineering approach in the modernization of a community-managed irrigation scheme. A case study from an oasis of the Nefzawa (South of Tunisia)", by W. Ghazouani, S. Marlet, Mekki and A. Vidal, published in Volume 58, No. S3
2009 Best Paper 2009Mrs. Jianxin Mu, Mr. Shahbaz Khan and Dr. Zhanyi Gao receiving ‘Best Paper Award 2009’ from President Chandra Madramootoo in recognition of their outstanding paper titled “Integrated Water Assessment Model for Water Budgeting Under Future Development Scenarios in Qiantang River Basin of China” published in Volume 57, No.4.

Dr. L.K. Smedema (The Netherlands) received 'Best Paper Award 2008' for his outstanding paper titled "Revisiting currently applied pipe drain depths for waterlogging and salinity control of irrigated land in the (semi) arid zone" published in Volume 56, No. 4.

Drs. S. Khan, S. Mushtaq, Y. Luo, D. Dawe, M. Hafeez, and T. Rana received 'Best Paper Award 2008' for their outstanding paper titled "Conjunctive Water Management Options: Examples from Economic Assessment of System-level Water Saving through Liuyuankou Irrigation System, China" published in Volume 56, No. 5.

2007 Best Paper 2007Dr. G R Backeberg (South Africa) receiving ‘Best Paper Award 2007’ from President Lee in recognition of his outstanding paper titled “Reform of User Charges, Market Pricing and Management of Water: Problem or Opportunity for Irrigated Agriculture” published in Volume 55, No.1.
2006 Best Paper 2006Dr. T.B.S. Rajput and Dr. Neelam Patel (India) receiving 'Best Paper Award 2006' from President Lee in recognition of their outstanding paper titled "Enhancement of Field Water Use Efficiency in the Indo-Gangetic Plain of India" published in Issue 54.2.
