ICID Scholarship to Young Professionals, October 2015, Montpellier, France

Young Professionals (Less than 40 years of age) working in Irrigation and Drainage sector, particularly from the member countries of ICID are being encouraged to attend ICID events/ conferences with the objective of facilitating the involvement of young professionals in ICID’s activities as today’s young professionals will be tomorrow’s pillars in ICID. In an effort to encourage Young Professionals to participate in ICID activities, all Young Professionals attending ICID events as a practise are provided 50% concession in the Registration Fees.

Additional Sponsorship is being offered to Ten Young Professionals for facilitating their attendance in the 26th European Regional Conference and the 66th International Executive Council meetings to be held from 11-16 October 2015, Montpellier, France, to enable them to participate in various events.

National Committees/ partner International Organizations are requested to nominate one Young Professional (YP) engaged in irrigation and drainage sector and who are willing to take active part in the upcoming ICID events, by way of contributing papers, becoming rapporteurs and coordinators. The scholarship will consist of full waiver of registration fee and to and fro air travel ticket by economy class by shortest route; and a lump sum out of pocket allowance.

Young professionals (below 40 years) may send their ‘Nomination Forms’ to the concerned National Committee or a partner International Organization of ICID for validation. The last date for receiving the completed Nomination Form, through Member National Committees/ International Organizations to the ICID Central Office icid@icid.org, New Delhi is 15 May 2015.

Online Courses in Integrated Management of Water, Soil and Waste

Based on the applications received in the Central Office in response to announcement for sponsoring of candidates from ICID member countries, ten candidates from Afghanistan, Brazil, Iran, India, Malawi, Thailand, Ukraine, and one from Central Office have been accepted for the Online UNU-FLORES Courses. They are being supported by sponsoring their course fee. The participants opted for the two courses on (1) Green economy and the life-cycle cost approach and (2) Rethinking infrastructure design for multiuse water services. These courses are being organized by the United Nations University Institute for the Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and Resources (UNU-FLORES) from 02 March to 22 May 2015. Nominations are invited for ICID Scholarship to Young Professionals

With the objective of intensifying the involvement of young professionals in ICID’s activities, all Young Professionals are provided 50% concession in the Registration Fees for attending ICID meetings/ annual events/ conferences as today’s young professionals will be tomorrow’s pillars in ICID.

At the 64th International Executive Council (IEC) meeting held at Mardin in October 2013 it was decided to further facilitate participation of Young Professionals, partial sponsorship is being provided to ten young professionals every year in the ICID events viz. World Irrigation Forum/ Congress/ IEC commencing from 22nd Congress in 2014 in Korea.

All National Committees/ partner International Organizations are requested to nominate one or two Young Professionals (YP) who is engaged in irrigation and drainage sector and who are willing to take active part in the upcoming 22nd Congress, by way of contributing papers, becoming rapporteurs and coordinators. The scholarship will consist of:

(i) To and fro air travel ticket by shortest route by economy class;
(ii) Full waiver of registration fee for the Congress; and
(iii) A lumpsum out of pocket allowance.

The Young Professionals whose papers are accepted for presentation by the Technical Committee of the event; those contributing to the WG-YPF and any other WGs of ICID; and those willing to participate in and contribute to the ICID events regularly will be given preference in awarding the scholarship. The selected candidates will be informed two months in advance of the event.

12th International Drainage Workshop (IDW), 23-26 June 2014, Russia

The 12th International Drainage Workshop (IDW) will be hosted by the ICID’s Russian National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (RuCID) in Saint Petersburg (Pushkin), Russia from 23-26 June 2014. The main theme of the Workshop is ‘Drainage on Wetland Agricultural Areas’ and has seven sub-topics i.e. (a) New equipment and modern technology drainage construction in wetlands; (b) Efficiency of the use of reclaimed land and socio-economic aspects of the use of reclaimed land; (c) Drainage design and methods of calculating; (d) Advanced training of specialists: constructors and engineers in the field of drainage systems management and operation; (e) An integrated ap-proach to the management of drainage and environmental protection; (f) Using reclaimed land for agricultural purposes; and (g) History of the drainage system development.

RuCID has also kindly agreed to fully waive off the Registration Fee for ten Young Professionals from developing countries to facilitate their participation in the 12th IDW.

Young professionals willing to avail the waiver of full registration fee are requested to apply to the organizing Committee of 12th IDW.
