The
Best Performing Workbody Award (BPWA) was instituted by ICID in 2002.
The performance of a workbody is adjudged based upon a set of criteria
and its contribution towards the mandate and mission of ICID. The BPWA
2008 was presented to the ICID Journal Editorial
Board (EB-JOUR) by the Governor of Punjab on 17 October 2008 on the
occasion of the 59th IEC and 20th ICID Congress held at Lahore, Pakistan.
ICID
Journal acts as a mouthpiece to communicate to the international water
community ICID's sixty years of experience in the promotion and transfer
of water and land management technology and related issues. ICID Journal
was granted Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) starting with Vol.49,
Issue No.1 of 2000 which was the first issue of the quarterly Journal
printed and distributed under ISSN 0971-7412. ICID Journal was also selected
for coverage in Current Contents/Agriculture, Biology and Environmental
Sciences (CC/AB&ES)
The WG-HIST was established
in 1980. The Group has published more than 30 volumes of Water History
related documents and books, including Historical Dams (ICID 2001), The
Danube Valley (ICID 2004), The Indus Basin (ICID 2004), "A History
of Water Issues" (UNU 2005), and History of Irrigation and Drainage
of various member countries.
The Management Board is responsible with the Central
Office for the implementation of the decisions made by Council, and will decide
such actions in between Council meetings as are necessary to properly effect
the working of the Commission.
The Committee shall
be concerned with increasing the number of member countries and assisting the
National Committees to become more active in their own countries to achieve
the goals set for them from time to time. The Committee will also undertake
issues related to strategic planning for ICID. The Committee will coordinate
the activities of Vice Presidents in their areas.

IRRIGATION
AND DRAINAGE
Irrigation
and Drainage is the official journal of the International Commission
on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID). The objectives of the ICID are to advance
the science and art of irrigation, drainage and flood management. Irrigation
and Drainage is a prestigious peer-reviewed publication and enables
ICID to accomplish its objectives of publishing original papers on scientific,
engineering and socio-economic issues associated with irrigation, drainage
and flood management in a clear, concise and uniform style that is easily
understood by an international audience. ICID has more than sixty years
of experience in the promotion and transfer of water and land management
technology and related issues.
Irrigation
and Drainage plays an important role as the world struggles to meet the
food demands of a rapidly growing population and problems with floods
and droughts are increasingly encountered. It is a publication that directly
addresses the management of water resources for agriculture and flood
management. The potential impact of the Journal on the transfer of technology
is large as is its potential for continued success. Formerly, it used
to be published as ICID Bulletin since 1952. Its title has since been
changed to ICID Journal since 1995. ICID Journal was presented in two
issues upto 1998. ICID has brought out 3 issues in 1999. In 2000 the ICID
Journal became a quarterly publication. Since March 2001 the Journal has
been renamed as "IRRIGATION AND DRAINAGE - Managing Water for Sustainable
Agriculture - The Journal of the International Commission on Irrigation
and Drainage" and is published by Wiley-Blackwell under full editorial
responsibility of ICID. Since 2005 the Journal is published in five issues
per year. The Journal is listed in the ISI citation index. The 2009 impact
factor was 0.480.
Articles
for Irrigation and Drainage have to be uploaded in the Manuscript Central
System of Wiley-Blackwell. The address is: http://www.interscience.wiley.com/journal/ird.
The web site contains all relevant information with respect to Irrigation
and Drainage, including authors instructions.

WORKING
GROUP ON WATER MANAGEMENT IN WATER STRESSED REGIONS (WG-DROUGHT)
(Erstwhile WG-IADWS)
Mandate
Drought
management strategies: This thematic topic mainly intends to capture field experiences
of the implementation of drought risk management strategies as far as livestock
and crop production and rural livelihood improvement are concerned.
Coping
with water scarcity: The topics to be addressed under this theme include:
Critical
evaluation of the validity of the crop water requirement computations based
on climate data as a tool to be used in coping with water scarcity; Approaches
and strategies for incorporating economical justification when deciding the
amount of water to be allocated for agricultural production; Re-defining, as
necessary, the conventional irrigation efficiency concept; and Design, operation
and maintenance of sand dams - Under-ground water reservoirs.
Rainfall
management for sustainable agriculture: This topic may, at the outset, seem
to be outside the scope of ICID. However, if the ultimate objective of the ICID
- increasing agricultural productivity and improving rural livelihood - is to
be realized, innovation and implementation of smart rainfall management technologies
will be essential, since 60% of global food production comes from rainfed agriculture.
Furthermore, rainfall supports extensive forest areas that significantly contribute
to human and livestock livelihood and sustainability of natural ecosystems.
